Gianni Cardillo was born in Trapani. After gaining some experience as a director and writer for theatre, he studied at the DAMS in Bologna. He then moved to Rome, where he started his career as a freelance screenwriter. He has made shorts and feature films as a writer and director and has worked as a screenwriter on several Italian TV series such as Un medico in famiglia and Distretto di Polizia. In 2013, he was the director of the New Cinema Network, a program established by the Rome International Film Festival with the aim of supporting young, independent filmmakers.
